A 25-year-old Hindu man, Chanchal Chandra Bhowmik, was burned to death on Friday night inside a garage in Narsingdi, Bangladesh. He was asleep when flames erupted, and firefighters forced open the shop shutter in a bid to save him, but the blaze proved fatal.
Police say CCTV footage from the scene shows a person moving near the site before the fire, and investigators are examining whether the blaze was caused by an external factor or an electrical fault. No arrests had been made as of Sunday.
The incident comes amid concerns about violence against Hindu communities in the country, with reports of other attacks in the region in recent months. Earlier cases in Narsingdi and Naogaon have raised questions about safety for minority communities, though investigators have not linked those events to this fire.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and that they will share findings as they become available.
