Role Overview:

We’re looking for a Software Engineer Intern to join our engineering team. This is a hands-on role where you’ll contribute directly to building features for social engagement, improve user experience, and more.

Responsibilities

As a Software Engineer Intern at Thoxt, you will:

  • Contribute to our web platform (Django), adding features and fixing bugs.

  • Improving infinite scroll and engagement features for the homepage/feed.

  • Building search and hashtag autocomplete UI for content discovery.

  • Help optimize performance (caching, pagination, query optimization).

  • Implement new creator tools like video recording, editing, teleprompter, topic suggestions and image editing.

  • Assist with testing and QA, writing unit and integration tests.

  • Collaborate with product and design teams to turn ideas into user-facing features.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or CS50 with equivalent practical experience.

  • Experience with Python and Django (or similar backend framework).

  • Familiarity with JavaScript, Jinja2 and HTML/CSS.

  • Understanding of REST APIs and working with MySQL databases.

  • Interest in building user-facing features and learning full-stack development.

  • Eagerness to learn, experiment, and iterate quickly in a startup environment.

  • Bonus Skills

    • Knowledge of caching layers (Redis, Django cache).

    • Exposure to AWS or similar cloud platforms.

    • Prior projects in full-stack development or demonstration of problem-solving in core software engineering.

    • Familiarity with real-time systems (e.g., WebSockets, streaming pipelines).
